ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission has doubled the number of scholarships allocated for postgraduate students from Balochistan and FATA under the commission’s programme called ‘Provision of Higher Education Opportunities for Students of Balochistan and FATA’. The decision was taken on Tuesday in a meeting of the Project Steering Committee, chaired by Dr Sohail Naqvi, executive director of the HEC. The meeting had been held to double the number of scholarships for students of Balochistan and FATA for postgraduate programmes from 60 to 120. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Naqvi proposed that the committee increase scholarships for students of the underprivileged areas. The steering committee unanimously approved 120 scholarships for postgraduate programmes in intake of batch-II for the year 2009-10. The names of the 120 students have also been uploaded on the HEC website.
