Gold prices & Pakistan rupee exchange rates on 16th October 2009

KARACHI: The rupee maintained stability versus the American currency in the interbank market, dealers said on Friday.

The dollar commenced the day’s trading at Rs 83.23 for buying, shed one paisa and closed at Rs 83.22 for buying and Rs 83.27 for selling. The rupee also recovered its strength against the euro. The euro initiated the day’s trading at Rs 124.31 for buying, depreciated and closed at Rs 123.99 for buying and Rs 124.19 for selling. Therefore, the rupee incurred a gain of 32 paisas.

However, the British currency gained major grounds against the rupee, as it started the day’s trading at Rs 134.74 for buying, appreciated and closed at Rs 136.08 for buying and Rs 136.28 for selling. Therefore, the rupee incurred a loss of Rs 1.34.

Open market: The dollar was unchanged against the rupee, dealers said. The American currency started the day’s trading at Rs 83.25 for buying, did not witness any change and closed at Rs 83.25 for buying and Rs 83.35 for selling. However, the euro lost strength against the rupee, as it started the day’s trading at Rs 123.95 for buying, depreciated and closed at Rs 123.70 for buying and Rs 124.20 for selling. Thus, the local currency recorded a gain of 25 paisas.

The British currency gained grounds versus the rupee, as it kicked off the day’s trading at Rs 134.30 for buying, appreciated and closed at Rs 135.20 for buying and Rs 135.70 for selling. Thus, the rupee incurred a loss of 90 paisas. DT
