ISLAMABAD: Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Dr Farooq Sattar on Friday told the National Assembly that efforts were under way to allocate four National Assembly seats to overseas Pakistanis.
Responding to a question, the minister told the House that the ministry had drafted a bill and summary had been moved to the Law and Justice Division, seeking allocation of four seats in the National Assembly. He said the ministry had proposed allocation of one seat each for overseas Pakistanis in the US and Canada, Europe, Central East and Far East.
After the president’s approval, the bill would be presented to the cabinet. The bill also seeks allocation of seats in the provincial assemblies. The minister said the ministry was also striving to provide right of vote to the overseas Pakistanis and a summary was with the Law and Justice Division and the Election Commission to devise a mechanism as to how they may cast their vote. The ministry was also resuming work on housing projects stuck up for the past several years, including the OPF housing schemes in Zone-V Islamabad, Raiwind and Mirpur.
