Lahore Bachao asks for halt to commercialisation

LAHORE: The Lahore Conservation Society (LCS) — a body of professionals and influential citizens — has urged the Punjab government to halt commercialisation of 58 more roads in the city and shift future businesses to the boundaries of the metropolis. In a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Friday, LCS activists Kamil Khan Mumtaz, Dr Ajaz Anwar, Imrana Tiwana, Colonel (r) Ejaz Ahmad, Raafey Alam, Iram Aftab and others said the city could not afford more commercialisation, which is damaging the environment and endangering the people through pollution and disease. They also demanded that the Canal and other key places acting as the safeguards of the lifecycle in the city should be declared motor-free zones in order to get a pollution-free society. Daily Times
