The recent spell of load shedding in the city ahead of start of summer season has pushed the sales of electricity generators and UPS by 25 percent up as compared to previous months.
The new phase of the load-shedding, which is expected in the coming months manifold expressed apathy of the government and private power companies, who thus far have miserably failed to come up with any solution of the persistent power crisis.
Majority of the wholesalers and retailers are anticipating a high surge in the demands in the month of April and May, however, generators and UPS sales have started getting momentum from the last week.
According to official figures, the country pre-summer is facing a shortfall of 2500MW to 3000MW of electricity, which is expected to rise up to 5000MW that could further prolong the duration of the load shedding to 10/12 hours per day.
A survey conducted by The Post revealed that the prices of the generators and UPS of all types are available at cheap rates as compare to some six months ago when there was a world wide shortage in copper wire, a main ingredient of the UPS and generator.
Mudassar Ahmad, a dealer of generators at Ram Gali admitted that there is surge in the sale of generators in the recent days in market. However, he said that there is scarcity in the generators and surge in the price as supply is in abundance as compare to demand.
He informed that a 5KV generator of Chinese origin is available around Rs 30,000 while a 10 KV of electricity generator is Rs 9000, 12 KV of 92000 and 15 of Rs 100,000.
Saqib Khan, a dealer of UPS on Hall Road observed that the demand for UPS and generators by the electricity consumers surging, in the wake of the approaching summer. He lamented the government that no tangible efforts were visible to remove the load shedding, while the people are engaged buying UPS as a safeguard to the impending deluge
He said that 500 W of Ups is available from Rs 5800 to 6700 in the market, 750 W from Rs 7500 to 8500 and 1000 W from Rs 9500 to 10500. He further said that 1000 W Ups with double battery is on hand at Rs 13000.
