ISLAMABAD: Some 27 Independent Power Plants (IPPs), which are being set up in the country, would add 5305MW in the national grid during the span of 2009-12.
According to the document obtained from the Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO), eight IPPs would start generation of 1694MW power by the end 2009. Another eight units would start generation of 1741MW power by December 2010. The document further reveals that six IPPs would further generate 1268MW by December 2011 and five units would generate 602MW by December 2012.
Among the total 27 IPPs, about 13 units would generate 2651MW power by using furnace oil and six units would use natural gas and would generate 1338MW power. There were 4 other IPPs that would use both furnace oil and gas and would generate 900MW power. The document further revealed that 4 units would utilise hydel resources and generate 416MW power.
2009 projects: During the current year, the PEPCO expects that the oil base Attock Power Project, with power generation capacity 165MW, would be complete by end of January 2009. The government expects that oil base Atlas Shirazi Project at Lahore, having generation capacity of 225MW and another project based on both oil and gas Orient thermal project at Balloki having generation capacity 225MW would be completed by end March 2009. Another two projects namely, Fauji Mari Power Project (gas base) at Sindh having generation capacity 202MW and Nishat Power Project (oil base) at Lahore having generation capacity 200MW would complete by end of September 2009. Muridke Power Project (both oil and gas base) having generation capacity 225MW would be completed by end of October 2009.
The Engro Power Project (gas base) at Qadirpur, Sindh, having power generation capacity 227MW would be complete by December 2009. With completion of all these projects would able generate a total of 1694MW by end of 2009.
2010 Projects: Hubco Narowal power project (oil base) with generation capacity 220 MW and Nishat Chunian Project (oil base) with generation capacity 200MW would be completed by the end of March 2010. The Associated Technical Project at Lahore (oil base) having generation capacity 200MW is likely to be completed by June 2010. Japan Expansion Project (oil base) with generation capacity 101MW, Green Power Porject at Dadu Sindh (both oil and gas base) having generation capacity 205MW, Bhikki Power Project (oil and gas base) having power generation capacity 225MW would be completed by December 2010. Liberty Power at Faisalabad (oil and gas base) having generation capacity 225MW, PIE-Am Power Project (oil base) having generation capacity 200MW would also be completed by December 2010.
2011 Projects: Star Thermal Project in Sindh (gas base) having power generation capacity 134MW, Bestway project at Taxila (oil base) having generation capacity 200MW would complete by March 2011. The Gulistan Project at Gujranwala (oil base) having generation capacity 200MW is likely to be completed by June 2011.
