SIALKOT: The construction work of 46-km long Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala dual carriageway would begin in December 2008, as Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has released a special grant of Rs. 1.5 billion for this project.
PML-N central leader and MNA Khawaja Muhammad Asif disclosed this while talking to the newsmen here Friday. He said that the provincial government had revamped this project in the larger public interest, as this project had allegedly been politicised by the PML-Q government and Sialkot district government due to which the work on this project could not start during the last four consecutive years.During his visit to Sialkot district on July 28, 2008 Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced the reconstruction of main Sialkot-Daska-Gujranwala Road and its conversion into a dual carriageway within a year, which would also be helpful in minimising the ratio of fatal road accidents on this road called “Bloody Road” besides, lessening the rush of traffic on this road, Khawaja Asif added.
Iftikhar to address lawyers on 8th: Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, the deposed chief justice, will address All Pakistan Lawyers’ Convention at Sialkot scheduled to be held on November 08, 2008 (Saturday) under the auspices of Sialkot District Bar Association (DBA).
Sialkot DBA President Arshad Mehmood Baggu disclosed this while talking to the newsmen here Friday. He said that thousands of the lawyers across the country would attend this convention.
Iftikhar Chaudhry would be accorded warm welcome by Sialkot District Bar Association (DBA) upon his arrival at Sialkot and all the arrangements have been finalized in this regard, DBA president added.
Meanwhile, the Sialkot DCO Capt (r) Atta Muhammad Khan and Sialkot DPO Capt (r) Muhammad Ameen Friday reviewed the arrangements and security measures made by the Sialkot DBA for holding this all Pakistan lawyers’ convention.
Qazi due in Sialkot on 9th: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Qazi Hussain Ahmad will visit Sialkot on November 09, 2008 (Sunday). According a press released issued here today, Qazi Hussain Ahmad will address a district convention of party workers at Sialkot on the same day.
Commodities’ prices reviewed: In its important meeting, the Sialkot District Peace Committee, today, reviewed the prices of the daily used commodities and fixed the prices of Roti (bread) to be sold on the hotels and Sasti Roteis to be sold at the special Sasti Roti Plants.
Sialkot DCO Capt (Rtd) Atta Muhammad Khan chaired the meeting. The meeting announced that a Roti(bread) weighing 100 grams would be sold at a rate of Rs.3 at almost all the hotels and shops, while, the Sasti Roti would be sold at more than 100 Sasti Roti Plants established by the provincial government in Sialkot district’s all the four Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils. He said that the district administration would ensure the sale of the Roties and Sasti Roties on the fixed official price and weight and the shopkeepers would be fined not less the Rs.5000 each.
DCO later told the newsmen that the special monitoring teams have also been constituted to monitor the sale of the breads at the fixed official rates; they would conduct the sudden raids at the hotels and shop to check the sale of the breads of the fixed official rates.
