Huawei to set up second IT centre in Islamabad


Huawei has signed an MoU with Comsats Institute of Information Technology for setting up the second joint IT centre in 2008.” Ms Yafang Sun, Chairwoman of Huawei Technologies Co, Ltd told President Asif Ali Zardari in China State Guesthouse, in Beijing.

A press release issued here stated that Yafang Sun gave a brief introduction of Huawei in 20 years, Huawei’s contract sales had exceeded $16 billion, out of which 72 percent was from the international market in 2007. Huawei’s products are deployed in over 100 countries, and serve 35 of the world’s top 50 operators, as well as over one billion users worldwide.

She also mentioned that Huawei Pakistan is the number one telecom E2E solution provider and has more than 1,600 employees, which are composed of over 1400 Pakistani, i.e. 87.5 percent localisation ratio. “Since 2002, Huawei and UET Lahore had established a joint IT centre, where over 2,000 engineers had completed the training. In 2007, Huawei successfully launched a training centre and Pakistan-based VAS R and D centre.

She said, “Huawei is playing a more and more vital role for the promotion of friendship and exchanges for the good between Pakistan and China.”

On behalf of Huawei, Ms Yafang Sun presented equipments valued at $1 million to support the e-government initiative taken by the government of Pakistan. This was highly appreciated and accepted by President Asif Ali Zardari.
