Higher Education Commission of Pakstan’s digital library accessible on the Web 1


ISLAMABAD: Digital Library programme of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will provide free access to 25,000 international journals and 45,000 textbooks and research monographs to the faculty members and researchers anywhere.

Prof Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, the Chairman of HEC informed the Vice Chacellor of the university about digital library through a letter, said a news release issued here Saturday.

In a farewell letter to the universities, Dr. Attaur Rehman hoped that the new facility will be fully utilised by the faculty members and researchers.

The digital library programme was initiated in 2004 for the promotion of productive research in the country. At present, Around 300 universities, both public and private and research institutes are benefitting from this programme.

The liberary resources provide current and back volumes of more than 25000 research like journals like IEEE, ACME, EBSCO, Emerald, Elsevier, JSTOR and Balckwell Synergy are just a few.

Over the past four years of its launch, more than five million articles have been downloaded which has resulted in the increase of the research output of universities and research institutes of the country manifolds. Till now, these resources have been available through the local network of the universities. A little configuration will be required to expand the networking setup of the university.
