The Prisons Department on the special directive of the Punjab Chief Minister in a crackdown has recovered 30 cell phones from the rectums of prisoners in camp jail while another 7 were retrieved after proper surgery in Services Hospital.
Superintendent Camp Jail Gulzar Ahmad Butt told APP here Thursday that all these cell phones were traced with the help of screening machines which were later recovered from their rectums.
He said that after surgery, mobiles were recovered from under trial prisoners including Najeeb, Waheed, Sharafat, Farman, Ghulam Abbas, Farzand and Jamil. He said that their photographs have been displayed at the notice board of the jail.
He said all of them have been closed in “Chaki” as a punishment under jail manual for a period of one month which is extendable in case of non-compliance with the discipline.
He said that six kilogram narcotics was also seized at the main gate which was to be smuggled through thick layer on “Pizza” while one and a half litres liquor was concealed and packed in mineral water bottles.
He said hashish, opium and heroine was seized thorough physical search of all prisoners.
Gulzar Ahmad Butt said, cases have been got registered against the prisoners for keeping contraband in their possession.
He said that despite huge crowd of 5341 prisoners in the jail against the sanctioned strengthen of only 1050, we are trying our level best to purge the whole of the prisons of the menace of narcotics and mobile telephones.
He said that in view of above bad experience, he has allowed meal only without water and other items.
