Register your mobile device with PTA

According to a directive issued by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), mobile users now need to register their cellular devices with the authority.

Users can register their device via SMS by sending the IMEI number to 8484. Device’s IMEI number can be checked by dialling *#06# Moreover, registration can also be done via website or mobile application.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority had earlier sent notification to all mobile users asking them to register their smartphones and GSM devices before October 20.

Mobile phones not registered by the given date will be blocked by PTA.

  2. PTA should create mechanism for overseas Pakistanis to register their device via web even before flying to Pakistan. So that they do not come across a surprise when they arrive at airport

    1. Sadia you are very right but problem lies with the planners in Pakistani government departments. Nonprofessional people are holding important positions; unfortunately they do not have understanding and capability to do the right things. Pakistan is waiting for a major overhaul, most probably a bloody revolution.

  3. I tried to register my passport using Yahoo email but in 20 hours i did not receive account activation email

If you are planning to take your phone back then you do not need to register it but in case you want to leave your phone in Pakistan, then you have to register.

  4. Hi sir can you please guide me regarding one query, can i take one mobile phone once in a year to Pakistan without pay any duty/custom/PTA registration fee etc, i mean totally free ?

    1. As per FBR/custom baggage rules, one device is exempted from duty/tax in a calendar year, if passenger stayed abroad for more than 7 days and registered the device with PTA within 60 days of arrival. Remaining device(s) will be liable to pay all applicable duty/tax which will be assessed by FBR/Custom officials.

You can easily register your device from any mobile phone franchise when you visit Pakistan. From UAE you will not be able to register.
