SECRETARY Election Commission of Pakistan Kanwar Dilshad has said that Pakistan will be the first country in the world providing all electoral information on internet as well as cell phones.
He said this while presiding over a meeting in the office of Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab Lahore on Saturday.
He said all out efforts were being made to establish sophisticated IT infrastructure at the ECP secretariat and provincial headquarter offices that would bring a revolution in the electoral system of the country. Kanwar further said the management information system and geographical information system were being installed that would bring drastic changes and betterment in the electoral system of Pakistan to achieve the objectives of transparency and accuracy.
He said the electoral rolls were already available on the commission’s website, and any voter could search his name in the rolls by entering his CNIC number while voters would also be able to locate their polling stations just by entering their CNIC number. In the near future, all this information will also be made available on the subscribers’ cell phones, he added. “In this way, Pakistan will be the first country in the world to provide such information/data on the website as well as on cell phones”.
He said this would not only facilitate the voters and analysts but it will also ensure the right of people to access the information and achieve the goal of transparency. Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab Javed Khurshid and IT Director Imran Ahmad Khan briefed the secretary about the IT centre/infrastructure being established in the newly built building here at 10-Court Street.
