ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has named the Islamabad International Airport as Benazir Bhutto International Airport on the occasion of the late PPP chairperson’s 55th birth anniversary.
The prime minister issued the direction as a mark of respect and reverence for the martyred leader and in recognition of her unparalleled services for the nation, the people of Pakistan and for the cause of democracy. The prime minister, in consultation with the Punjab government, has also named the Rawalpindi General Hospital and the Murree Road after her name. Now they will be called Benazir Bhutto Hospital, Rawalpindi, and the Benazir Bhutto Road.
The prime minister has given an initial grant of Rs 50 million for upgrading the hospital. It has also been learnt that the government has decided to build a monument at the site where Benazir Bhutto was assassinated last year on December 27. The design of this monument will be selected through open competition and internationally acclaimed engineers would be asked to send their designs in this regard.
