MULTAN, June 7: Newly-formed Awami Muslim League president Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said he supported Gen Musharraf (retired) in the past as he had no other option, pledging that his party would not cooperate with undemocratic forces in future.
Speaking at a press conference here on Saturday,
Rashid said no politician could escape the trial if those who had supported Ayub Khan, Ziaul Haq and Prevez Musharraf were proceeded against for supporting the generals.
Saying none of the deposed judges enjoyed the status of legends like Justice Hamoodur Rehman and
Justice Cornelius, he added, however, they should be restored as it was the demand of the nation and the legal fraternity.
He said the ruling coalition should restore the judges and come forward to impeach the president as it had the required number of members in parliament.
But, he added, the coalition should first do something to improve economic condition of the country.
He said the Pakistan Muslim League-Q had failed to come up to the expectations of the people and had been rejected in the general election.
Sheikh Rashid said that he had differences with the PML-Q leadership on many issues which he communicated to them, and added that he left the party to avoid conflict.
He claimed his new party was for the oppressed and helpless voters of the country.
