Islamabad—The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has awarded a total number of 6,626 local and foreign scholarships during last three years.
Minister for Education Ahsan Iqbal has said that HEC awarded a total 3,049 foreign scholarships including 394 post doctoral fellowships and 2,655 MS, Ph.D and MS/ MPhil leading to Ph.D scholarships to Pakistani students.
Under the local scholarships programme as many as 3,300 Ph.D and MS/MPhil leading to Ph.D were awarded to the students, he said adding that 277 MS/M.Phil leading to Ph.D scholarships were given under International Research Support Initiative Program.
He said in order to make the scholarship program more transparent, the Ministry will display the scholarship programmes and their result on its official web site.
Replying to a question regarding the total scholarships awarded to the students of Balochistan Province, Ahsan said the scholarships are awarded after following a proper procedure and criteria, adding there is no quota system in this regard.
However, he said if any student secures his admission in world’s five renowned universities, the HEC provides him financial support.—APP
