36 online vehicle registration centres set up in Punjab

Rawalpindi: Excise and Taxation department has established a total of 36 online registration centres in Punjab , Secretary Excise and Taxation Punjab Shamail Ahmed Khawaja said on Tuesday.

Addressing businessmen at Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) premises here, he said a total of 3.5 million vehicles have so far been registered in the province and all the details regarding the legality of the vehicles can be seen on the department’s website.

The system of property tax collection is being simplified and traders/shopkeepers would be facilitated in this regard, he said and added that Capital Value Tax and Property Tax amount would be spent in the areas from where these taxes are collected.

The Secretary stressed that capacity building of the government institutions is the need of the hour and Excise & Taxation department is striving hard to resolve the problems faced by the masses specially businessmen community.

Speaking on the occasion President Kashif Shabbir said that national economy was already under stress owing to global economic crunch and government decision to enhance the interest rate ratio which would further add problems to the businessmen community.

He demanded of the government that ratio of property tax should be reduced and the amount collected from the capital value tax and property tax must be utilized for the benefits of the traders and industrialists.

He said that RCCI always assist the government to collect and enhance revenue generation resources but government should take the community into confidence in the policy making process. “Public-Private Partnership is the only way to come out of the prevailing crisis”, he stressed.
