ISLAMABAD: President, PM House to use solar energy

Water heating system, garden lights, and some internal wiring of the President House and the Prime Minister House will be replaced with solar powered system to encourage the renewable energy plan, said Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) chief.

AEDB Chairman, Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf after presiding over the 20th meeting of the board on Thursday told the media that solar water heaters are being introduced to save gas, which will be used to generate electricity.

Under a comprehensive plan tube wells in selected rural areas were being replaced with pumps operating on renewable energy, he said.

Illuminations in parks and streetlights were gradually being converted to run on solar energy, Ashraf said.

Minister said that the present government is giving due attention to Renewable Energy (RE) and other indigenous resources to generate cheaper electricity to meet the future power requirements.

He said that a comprehensive plan had been formulated to generate power through wind, coal, solar, and hydroelectric resources on medium and long-term basis.

He said that the Board had decided to monitor the progress of wind projects and LoI of the companies, which had not made any progress, shall be cancelled.

Ashraf informed that wind projects of 200MW capacity would be launched shortly and AEDB with the support of USAID would soon launch a 50MW project, while wind project offered by CMEC of China would also be undertaken by AEDB after necessary spadework. He said these green technologies are costly initially but prove inexpensive in the long run.
