The British High Commission yesterday issued a statement about the UK visa application process, including the current processing times, and a warning about the activities of unscrupulous agents.
“We decided to make this announcement because we are aware that unscrupulous agents are exploiting some applicants and giving them misleading visa information. These agents are taking money to arrange appointments at the visa application centres and encouraging applicants to submit fraudulent applications. It is important that our customers know that there is no charge for appointments and fraudulent applications will be refused and mean longer processing times for everyone” said Director of Visa Services, Peter Chaplin.
“We have taken a number of measures to improve the service to customers and prevent abuse of the visa system.”
“All applicants must obtain an appointment to submit their visa applications. They do this by telephoning Gerry’s on 0900 10411 or 8865 from a mobile phone. Gerry’s have taken on more staff to respond to the increased number of calls and requests for appointments.”
“We are seeing more fraudulent visa applications. As a result, genuine applicants wait longer for their visas, as visa officers are required to carry out extensive anti-fraud checks. We would ask applicants not to listen to agents who say that they can guarantee them a visa and that it is easy to do so using forged documents. Agents have no power to guarantee visas. We will detect false documents and, through the biometrics process, we will detect all false identities. This kind of abuse of the visa process will result in the visa application being refused and the applicant risking a ban on travel to the UK for the next 10 years.”
“We would like to remind customers that visa application forms are free of charge and available from the Gerry’s website: www.ukvacpk.com. It is important that these application forms are completed fully.”
“Currently, customers need to allow the following number of weeks for end to end processing: approximately 4 weeks if the application is made at Mirpur Visa Application Centre (VAC), 5 weeks at the Islamabad VAC and 6 weeks at Lahore and Karachi VACs. The processing times are available and regularly updated on Gerry’s website, www.ukvacpk.com”
“We welcome genuine visitors to the UK and are working hard to make the waiting times shorter. We would ask our customers to make their visa applications in very good time before they intend to travel and not to take up the services of unscrupulous agents”

I submited my documents on 10th of June. I have allowed them 7 weeks. I had strong follow up from Abu Dhabi. I know that now my documents are in BHC. I cant understand Why they are such slow.
It is such a tortouse process.

Hey Anosha,
You know what, I submitted my documents on 19 March, 2009 and still haven’t get any news from them.
Although, I went three times after 19 March to submit my finger prints and last time was on September 3rd. So You have to be patient and UK embassy is facing some serious system problems and also they have stopped Pakistanis to go there for security concerns.
My wish to go there is going to die as they are taking tooooo much time to process, there are almost 6 months have gone but no new yet!!!!!
Did you apply for student Visa? Also, sorry to say that your yahoo email is incorrect…

I went to Visa Center on September 3rd to submit re- finger prints for third time and I got several people there who had been applied for visit visa since 2nd Feb.
A lady was also came there for third time and she said that there was a marriage ceremony of her daughter on April 18th but did not able to attend that as she is also victim of pending process. She came there also third time with me to submit finger prints. But she was really disappointed and fed up with Gerry’s.
So you have to wait but how much dont know….

Hello ppl,
I am new to this Forum and wanted to comment on this thread as am near well ‘psycho point’ due to the Visa delay… I am confirmed for MBA in UK at RHUL and my course starts 21st Sep… however despite me applying as they say on the website…. ‘well in advance’ on 14th of July from Karachi… i have yet to receive any response. Have not contacted Abudhabi yet but will on Monday to get their status. I need to definitly be there before 20th in order to confirm accomodation and stuff and well this Visa wierd phsycho thing is kinda killing me…………………………………………..I hope Inshallah all of us get our Visas all proper done and good ASAP like in the next couple of days to end the agony. However I just wanted a reference, that off all who are active on this forum please state whether u are from karachi or not and how many weeks has it been…. for me its been 7 weeks… well above the 6 week thing that is circulated around so am going crazy now!!!

hi there again,,,, i would suggest that stop waiting and try to make your self busy in something else, as dont worry you will get your visas atlast….and have all of you got extension? then its totally fine…or even i woud suggest that write an email to your respective admission offices of the college or universities and try to update them about your visa delays and they will deffinately accomodate you…..
as i have submitted mine on 27th of August from Mirpur VAC . for tier4 student visa…and i`m from lahore ….i just got late for submission so i asked my university to give me some more time extension by emailing them….and they were so nice that the course director sent me a scanned certificate of extension on which she wrote to bhc islamabad that please give him a visa as soon as possible, if usman is not able to join us on 28th of september then we can keep his place on hold over the coming months……so i print it out and aatached wid my application….as my orientation classes were from 7th sept and latest date i cud join was 28th sept…..but now i`m tension free…….so u guys should do the same i mean atleast just inform them about delays and they will deffinately give u a favour

I got in touch with BHC Abu Dhabi and they told me that my application was sent to BHC Islamabad on August 1st! Apparently there’s a huge backlog in Islamabad.
Gerrys has no idea how long the BHC will keep my passport!
It’s already been 6 weeks.

People who got their passport back already, did gerry’s call you to tell you that your passport is back or did your status change online to ‘ready for collection’? I am worried that gerry’s might not be able to contact me through phone because my phone often doesn’t work, so i am counting on the website to show that my passport is ready to be picked up. I applied on 13th July too and i am so worried now.

Someone in here applied on 16th july..and got their visa aswell. he applied from lahore. so did i. but idk. but ppl from islamabad shud get it b4 anyone else does..it takes the shortes time of period if u apply from isl. yikesss… i jus hope get my pp soon with visa stamped on it lol.
anyways.. no the status thing is CRAP. that doesnt work! i applied on 30th july..seeing u guys didnt get urs yet..makes me anxious!!

I just spoke to this dude at Gerrys, he told me that these days they’re getting passports for people that applied rougly from JUly 1-5. next in line is 7-10 and then 10 to 14. Don’t know the authenticity of this though. But according to this, those who applied like I did on July 13th might have to wait for another week or two.

The most i can afford to wait is another 2 weeks. If my passport is returned after that and i am given the visa, i will probably not be able to make it on time for the start of my course.

I asked him the same that how come people who applied after me got their visas before me and he had this really lame ass reply that all cases are individually treated and yeah well that’s just how it is.
Gerrys is of zero help. I’ve emailed the BHC islamabad and requested them to update me on the status of the application. Let’s see if they reply.

The BHC replied to my email. Like everyone here , I got the same reply:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for your email. I can confirm that we have processed your application in Abu Dhabi and you should hear your decision from Gerry’s shortly. Please do not contact Gerry’s directly about this as they will contact you when your paperwork is ready for collection.

Okay, i applied on 24 july from lahore. And considering that i had arrived back from the uk on the same day. And that i already hold five british visas, one of which is still valid for another four years. I should’ve recieved my passport by now, but what i gather from all this is that your previous visa’s might not essentially make you a special candidate. So, we must wait some more! Good luck all

I know of a female who is supposed to go to the same Uni as me this september in Uk. she applied for her Visa on 7th Jul and got her Visa on 21st Aug. She also had her course start date as 21st sep like me but she had to attend a pressional course starting 7th Sep. She got hers in just a couple of days over 6 weeks… its been over 7 weeks (also I applied from Karachi) for me and I have been going absolutely crazy here now as i have to travel in 15 days!!!!!!!!!

@ eshawh. I’ve got a multiple visit visa, which sadly doesn’t qualify for a student one or can be transfered into one. However, i did manage to find out where my passport is, which i think in times like these is a feat in itself! THE NEWS- UK VISA WOES- Wednesday, September 02, 2009, Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 11, 1430 A.H
I applied for a six-month tourist visa for the UK on March 3 through the Gerry’s Visa Application Centre in Karachi. Six weeks later I went to retrieve my passport only to be informed that I must reapply. I was assured that the second application would take less time for the security checks had already been conducted; it was my fingerprints that had been unreadable due to a “corrupted file,” and an error caused by Gerry’s. I reapplied on April 27, and since then have been made to run around in circles regarding the whereabouts of my passport.
The UK embassy in Islamabad claims Abu Dhabi has my passport; Abu Dhabi claims it has been under security checks for almost three months. I was told that to withdraw my application I must send an official form to Islamabad, which I did. Two days later I received a call from the embassy in Islamabad saying they had misinformed me, and that this form should have been mailed to Abu Dhabi. Finally I managed to file an official petition to have my visa application withdrawn and my passports and documents mailed back to me. This request has yet to be honoured. Moreover, the embassy in Islamabad refuses to respond to my emails. The embassy in Abu Dhabi refuses to respond to many emails or my request in writing. They also do not give out their phone number.
Due to the incompetence on the part of Gerry’s and the lack of concern and professionalism displayed by the administration at the embassies both in Islamabad and Abu Dhabi, I have been without a travel document for almost five months. Without this, I was unable to appear for the GRE, which set back my education plan for a year. I have wasted the only vacation I get as a lecturer, in a perpetual wait. I have had to cancel three flight bookings, and have lost time and money.
I respect and appreciate that security checks are required to keep nations safe. I have lived in England for three years, studied in the US for four, and in Ireland for one year, and each time I have returned to my country of origin. All the while many people (and not just Pakistanis) are found living illegally in the UK.
Clearly this whole process is a flawed one. For this reason I would appreciate advice from anyone as to how I may obtain my current passport to which all previous passports are attached and which document my travel history for over two decades. I request that the embassies in Islamabad and Abu Dhabi, for the umpteenth time, that my passports and all else that is duly mine, please be returned to me immediately.

I applied for my kid’s visa as my Tier 1 (General) Dependants on March 24, 2009. We also gave the biometrics at the same time and were told that it will approximately take 15-20 days to process their application. But after 6 WEEKS we were called for the biometrics again due to some technical error in the system. So we submitted the biometrics again on May 11, 2009.
Now the situation is that its almost 4 months to the second biometrics and still there is no reply. I am continuously checking the application status online and it is giving me the same status i.e. ‘Application Forwarded to Islamabad OC on….”

Due to IT problems, there is likely to be some disruption to UK Border Agency visa application processing for student tier 4 applications. Unfortunately, the time taken to process applications is likely to increase. All student (tier 4 points-based system) applications are being prioritised. I applied for a 5 year busines visa on 2nd June in Lahore & still waiting today! Emailed BHC Islamabad & Abu Dhabi many many times, but no help. One email did state that application was concluded in Abu Dhabi 21st June but status still shows as “Fowarded to Islamabad OC on”. Making me crazy!!
Anybody else still waiting that applied in June?? How much longer can I be expected to wait?? I have held UK visa before & travalled to UK many times, but reading some of the posts I guess that is going against me as regards security checks??

Well guess, I applied on 27th August as menionted above for Tier 4 Student. And i first called Abu Dhabi on 14th sept and no decision was made by that date. I again called them today, on 17th sept and a decision has been made(Allahumdilalah) and my passport has been sent to BHC islamabad. NOw i hope that it is a positive decision and I get it soon:) InshAllah!
You guess should call BHC abu dhabi and confirm the status of your applications. It does not have any affect on your application. They are very nice people and ready to answer your queries, whatever they are allowed to tell.

Nopes. Its the same. And it wont change their either. Coz my passport will be in BHC islamabad for few days. I dont know what they do, whether do they verify documents or place the visa ticket on my passport or what. It will only change when my passport will be back on gerry’s for delivery.

It will be 25working days (Mon-Fri) from submitting my settlement application tomorrow. my status still says forwarded to Islamabad oc on..
but it’s in the hands of Allah Mian so he will decide when mu husband gets his visa and when he joins me in the UK.

Dear Friends,
I applied a Visitor Visa (6 months) on the 29th June 2009 and since then my application is in process. Upon my sever contacts with the British Embassy in Abu Dabhi, i was informed that a decision has been made and the information has been sent to BHC, Islamabad. Its been almost 1 month since then. Can anyone tell me whats the cause of this delay and how long should i still wait to get my passport back.

well, after an allowed appeal i am just waiting for my passport. Actually, I won my student visa appeal and after couple of weeks i got call in letter by BHC on 15th of july , passport resubmitted on 11th of august, since then just reading forums, blogs, messaging friends and sending replies etc etc. Yesteday, I called gerrys he said, passport is under process and put the phone down quickly, stupid Bas***d. I wish I could beat up his a**….. Frustration is increasing day by day, cant understand what to do. However, Now just praying to almighty allah.

Well, you may read the comments above. There is a lot of fluctuations. MAny applicants have not got their visas considering that they applied in June and July. Whilst some applicants of august have got theirs. You may assume that it might take a month. BHC claims 25 working days. Btw, which university are you going to?Undergraduate or postgraduate?

@Murtaza, I submitted my passport on 11th of august after an allowed appeal ( student visa ) , but still I have not heard anything by Gerrys or BHC. Moreover, I sent an email to BHC,Islamabad and they said, my email has been forwarded to Casework section for an acknowlegment and they will update me accordingly. As far as I can tell, UK government deleberately delaying visas especially for pakistani nationals. Please take a look visa processing guidance at UKBA website, then you will come to know what I mean exactly.

Actually guys, the problem is that our decisions are made from abu dhabi. That takes time. Plus i dont know what they do here in Islamabad which also leads to a further delays. In the previous years, it was not that worse. Students used to get visas in 4 days in 2006 2007. And then last year, a friend of mine got it in 1.5week. But now.. huh!

“Settlement visa applications in Pakistan. Please note that the UK Border Agency is currently meeting its target processing time of 12 weeks for the majority of settlement applications. It is taking the full 12 weeks to process settlement applications so please do not make any enquiries about your application before this 12 week period. @inayat, hello inayat im sorry to say but you cannot travel to uk unless you have extension from your university. I recommend you to contact your university and tell them about embassy processing delay time cuz of their sever IT problems. University likely to accomodate you as its not ur fault. My classes started from 23rd sept and i had extension upto 7 oct, now its renewed to 16th oct. My two other friends applied on 26th aug and they called abu dhabi and one friend decision has been made and other one’s likely to be made soon and likely to get passport back within this or next week inshallah. NOW ITS TIME TO PLAY WITH YOUR LUCK! 40000 passport blockage… keep praying… some students already had missed the classes and extensions got over. Unfortunately they cannot travel and they need to cancel their visa’s before applying to another university. @sana, nah extension letter has to be kept wid u now cos at londont airpotrs eco asks for it if they see ur old letter on which classes have been gone by then they just ask to go back…..so all of u shud have extension lettter to satisy the eco at airport!

unfortunately you will not be able to travel to the UK on your student visa after oct, 9th because the immigration officer will ask for your extension letter upon arrival and because the date would be stated you will not be allowed to enter the UK. I would advice you to confirm with someone else too.

Dear All
I’ve been in UK myself for six years did my Masters and came back in 2006.
I am really disappointed to see that all the above guys and girls are almost dieing after UK visa and they are literally begging BHC.
Remember one thing: Plz show some dignity and Ghairat and stop begging them. I’ve seen more than 90% of our students while abroad on student visas are working extremely disgusting jobs( Factories, security guards, dish cleaning, hotel servents,butcher shops etc)and for this prupose they are keep on extending their visas every year.
Secondly i was so disappointed to see girls from pakistan specially karachi, that they do the most shameless things over there.They are so desperate after getting UK PP and for this purpose the can go to any extent.

Try to finish ur studies by all means and do not extend ur visas for the sake of living in UK from fake colleges and uni ( their used to be plenty).
Never try to get visas by forge means as this actions will deprive so many genune candidates plus
it’ll bring a bad name to our country.

did my Masters from Top UK uni.
Came back when i’d still valid visa of more than 10 months.
Have travelled Europe & UK many times.
Working still abroad for a well reputed top class Telecom company as Project Manager.
But i Love Pakistan more than anything and i am a proud Puskhtoon and Pakistani.
Simply its really ridiculous to watching these silly scenes infront of UK embassy and Gerry’s office by we Pakis. Why? Becuz we have lost faith in Allah & that
we think this is end of life. Got 2 change that sort of mentality.

I didn’t get you precisely..Have you got addmission in Uni, i mean what kinda registration is that?….Your visa is processing and i guess you should wait for your visa first and then contact with your Uni for new letter because i don’t think your PP is coming soon….You might have to wait for next intake..

You can only travel until you get new extension letter from Uni..Coz immigration officers at UK airport need to check this letter and it should be valid.

I am hoping to get it VISA on Monday or Tuesday, PFL told me that VISAs are coming and they are hopeful that the students will get it in the next week. If you get your VISA a day later then your last date, you can scan it and send to Manchester through PFL, Manchester isnt giving anymore extension until we have a VISA and nobody knows when we are getting it. Nobody wants to take a year off .. me neither, but things are screwed and we don’t have a choice .. I hope we get it in the next week and Manchester will accommodate. my name is umar and i work in london as a Trainee Chartered Accountant on a work permit. My bro applied for a student visa on 28 aug and since then i have tried to locate his passport on vfs global and gerrys website but everytime i do that, it says “invalid search”. I got this mail from abu dhabi saying that they have processed the application and he should be hearing from gerry’s soon but its been over a week eince i got that mail but still no word. Did anyone apply in late aug and got the visa?
also his classes were due to start in sep but i have enrolled him for nov classes now and i have got a new visa letter for that. Does he need to send this new visa letter to BHC or he would just have to present this to the immigration officer. I myself came to the uk on a student visa about 4years ago but things werent that bad during my time. Any help or suggestion would be much appreciated.

Hey! Dear.. I received my documents back today after 4months & a week.. And the BHC refused my visa because they said, my course staring date and extension had been over. So they granted my ZERO score for Visa Letter.
Now the issue is my visa was rejected on 28/09/2009. So ppl plz temme till which date I can apply for appeal and whts the procedure for appeal and how many days will it take. Either I should go for appeal or apply again

Does it take so long at abu dhabi? because when you get ur passport and visa the date at which the visa is stamped is like after 3 weeks of ur application?

and one more thing. if you have applied for a student visa and the date of the visa letetr runs out but you have an extension, do BHC asks you to send the extension letter to them or do u have to just send it when visa date runs out?

Its important to know that there some fraud ppl sitting outside Gerry’s int. Islamabad, and though
they normally only provide services for application filling, but they are involved in a very pathetic and disgraceful business too.
They tell ppl that they can expedite ur case, and will return ur pp in 10 or 15 working days.
Its all bull shit. they charge too much for this fraud service as all they do is to ask someone from embassy (internal source ) abt individual status of case, and they know the the time roughly that when is the possbile date of decision.
These days there are atleast four ECMs instead of One ( previously) and all pending cases will be decided more or less in Nov. so pls stay away from them and dont trust them.

After reaching there i got only my expired T.B certificate and PPs and a letter to re submit my new T.B certificate.Now they have said tht it will take more than a month. I re-submited my TB test n work permit on 11 th Sep, 2009 and its my fresh case. But as the result of 2 months silence from there side and keep sending them emails they replied that
‘ Please be advised that all non-settlement applications are being assessed in British Embassy Abu-Dhabi and settlement applications are being handled at UK HUB London.
Under the current procedure, Passports are kept by BHC Islamabad for as long as the application is sent to one of the above mentioned UK Visa Operation Centres. After the visa application has been concluded from Abu Dhabi or UK HUB, it still has to be in a queue for further process at BHC Islamabad before it is returned to the applicant through Gerry’s office.
Due to heavy flow of visa applications we have some back log that is why applicants are requested to check their case status on visa application centre’s website at http://www.ukvacpk.com ‘
InshaAllah, I think this information would ease little bit to all all brothers and sisters waiting problems that whats story behind this delay by BHC this time.

no bro my tb certificate will expire on 22nd dec… though they didn’t ask for my acceptance letter but my consultant is saying that ask ur uni to send a visa support letter for next session and send it to “visa.abudhabi@fco.gov.uk”, as many cases have already been released after sending new visa support letter… i have requested my uni 2 send me visa support letter for next session but they didn’t reply yet..

Here is one more update regarding delay in processing visa applications at Abu Dhabi and BHC.
The British High Commission in Islamabad has cleared 4000 UK visa appeals cases in the last five weeks, emplying additional temporary staff in Islamabad and Abu Dhabi to clear backlogs and get visa processing operating smoothly.
British Home Office Minister Phil Woolas gave this information in response to a question raised by Lord Nazir Ahmed regarding UK Visa processing times in Islamabad and Abu Dhabi, and Woolas expressed his satisfaction at the good progress.
The Minister said historically there have been high volumes of appeals in settlement and family visitor categories in Islamabad (about 4,000 a month) which have posed challenges.
Woolas also talked of the tough checks introduced by the British Government around the world for anyone applying for a UK Visa.

I just want to appeal to British High Commission and Mr Alan Johnson Home Sectary UK that there are some other type as well, such as settlement visa and allowed appeal cases etc.
We are victim of these delays as well. Our appeals have been allowed by Asylum and Immigration Tribunal UK. Many people are waiting for so many months for a call and some are waiting for their passport back. I am victim of this process as well I have re submitted my passport and it was 8 months ago. There is a worse condition too. I have been waiting for more then 8 months without a reply. It is indefensible for the British High Commission to take so long just to stamp a visa. And more worrisome is that there is no time frame for such of cases. If we call Gerry’s they say time frame is INDEFINITE which is totally unfair. This inordinate delay made me maid
It is good to learn that the British High Commission has a mind to clear the backlog. I am sure the authorities in British High Commission will take a compassionate view of all visa cases.

let me come with a new concern, the appellants from afghanistan are facing a big problem with the government of pakistan, due to this visa delays, ex: the PK embassy in afghanistan give you only stay for 22 days, and the passport gets a long time to return back from the embassy, while returning back to afghanistan the police ask for a lot of money in the border and sometimes refuses to give us exit, in fact my brother’s wife was given the visa in 20 days by the BHC islamabad, but she got call from gerry’s after two months to collect her passport, i hope this problem will be considered in the issuance of visa for afghan citizens, the stay usually is given to them 22 days and the visa should be issued in 19 or 20 days, then the problem will be solved
