SIALKOT: The first Kuwait-bound Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Sialkot, left on Friday, with 102 passengers on-board. Addressing a ceremony held at the Sialkot International Airport (SIA), PIA Sales Senior Vice President Salahuddin disclosed that the national airline would operate weekly on Friday between Sialkot and Kuwait. He said the PIA was considering expanding its network to other international destinations in near future, with a focus on initiating Haj and Umrah flights from Sialkot. It was learnt that cargo flights would also be started in the near future from SIA. “The national carrier has taken the lead in initiating its international flights from Sialkot airport”, he added. He lauded that the business community of Sialkot had set a unique precedent by establishing an international airport on self-help basis. Later, Salahuddin, District Manager Tariq Ismail and General Manager Reservation Mammon Rashid along with SIA staff saw the passengers off. The aircraft in use was a Boeing 737. Meanwhile, SIA Limited Chairman Baber Iqbal told APP that the airport would soon start its shuttle bus service from the airport to pick and drop passengers. This shuttle service would be for Sialkot, Daska, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Kharian, and some other adjoining areas. app

************** CRIME AT SIALKOT AIRPORT **************
At the end of April 2010, I have to travelled from Sialkot to Jeddah for Umra with my disable mother.
On way to Jeddah, at Sialkot airport the management was very poor, no law & order at the airport, staff was rude & the management of the airport was standing watching along with senior police officers. All they were interesting to collect Rs 500 per person after check in.
These passengers were going for Umra did not have Rs 500 & but was told by management to cash their Saudi Riyal to pay Rs 500. What a shame for robbing people who are on their way to visit ALLAH & Mohammed (pbuh), (most of the passengers were old & uneducated) should be rewarded not robbed under the supervision of airport management & police.
When face the management about this Rs500, their answer was to contribution towards to SIAL Airport.
I understood that this is a private investment airport so the investor must contribute towards to it not the poor passengers. What share they will have from their Rs500???? I have been told that SIAL airport is making a lot of money alone from planes landing on behalf of supplying goods to American forces in Afghanistan.
This is DAYLIGHT ROBBERY & this practice must be STOPPED immediately. It’s no wonder that Pakistan gets all the problems i.e. floods, earthquake and terrorism because of these people who have no SHAME even robbing Hajjis. If they want to charge Rs 500 or more this should be added in their ticket price.
On way back from Jeddah, the luggage was all over in hall & management & police sitting on their chairs watching old & female with children struggling to locate their luggage & bottles of ZamZam . There must be a law in Pakistan to stop this heinous crime and force law and order at Sialkot Airport by PIA, CAA, Police or local Chamber of Commerce authorities. Any of this or any other organisation should take control of this airport or close it for a good.
Any future passenger to this airport should refused to pay this “JAGA TAX”
ALL I CALLED THESE AIRPOT MANAGEMENT A BUNCH OF GREEDY ???.
