Punjab Budget 2016-17: tax on imported cars

LAHORE, June 13 (APP): Punjab Government has levied one-time tax
on the imported motor cars registered after June 30, 2016.

Provincial Finance Minister Aisha Ghaus Pasha, while presenting the Finance Bill 2016-17, here on Monday, said that the term “motor car” means a motor car as defined in the provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965 (XIX of 1965).

The tax will be levied as per the following rates:

a) A tax of rupees 70, 000 will be levied on the Motor car with engine capacity exceeding 1300 cc and not exceeding 1500 cc

b) A tax of rupees 150,000 will be levied on the Motor car with engine capacity exceeding 1500 cc and not exceeding 2000 cc

c) A tax of rupees 200,000 will be levied on the Motor car with engine capacity exceeding 2000 cc and not exceeding 2500 cc

d) A tax of rupees 300,000 will be levied on the Motor car with engine capacity exceeding 2500 cc

The tax will not be levied on the motor cars owned by the Federal government, the government or any other provincial government.
As per the Finance Bill 2016-17, the government, by notification, may exempt any class of vehicles from the levy of the tax.
