Islamabad Police launch stolen vehicle identification system

Islamabad Police have introduced a service at Rescue 15 through which one can know about status of vehicle whether it is genuine or stolen by simply sending an sms to 8521.

The formal inaugural of this system was made by Inspector General of Police Islamabad Bani Amin Khan here Saturday here at Rescue 15. SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, SP Industrial Area Ishaq Warraich, ASP Shakir Shahid and other officials were also present on the occasion.

The IGP said that Islamabad Police has signed an agreement with Digital Seal Pvt. Ltd. by virtue of which an integrated service with a short code of 8521 has been developed at Rescue-15.

Highlighting the salient features of this service to be called Stolen Vehicles Identification System, IGP Bani Amin Khan said that persons anywhere in Pakistan will write down simply an Engine no or chassis number of the vehicle and send it to 8521. Within less than 20 seconds all out details about subject vehicle will be displayed on his mobile, the IGP said and hoped for curbing of car theft incidents through this way.

He said that police will also receive similar message regarding the particular of vehicles when it is forwarded to 8521 and its status would be delivered to the sender and police too. He said that result about the particular vehicles would be disseminated to the police pickets in the city for their interception in case they pass through there.

He said that after assuming as IGP Islamabad, he gave top priority to prevention and detection of car-theft. “We have been able to bust notorious gangs of car-lifters and also recovered 10 stolen vehicles (6 ACLC, 2 PS Aabpara, 1 PS Tarnol & 1 PS Kohsar) from their possession”, he added.More than 62 halting points during the night, he said, have been placed and vigilance as well as strength at exit points of city have been intensified.

To a question, he said that disciplinary action has been taken against 125 cops working in Anti-Car Lifting Cell for their sluggish or irresponsible approach to trace the cases or dispose off the cases.

Regarding the challenges being faced by the Islamabad police, he said that 135 terrorists and 12 suicide bombers have been arrested since March 2009 and the force remained successful in busting criminals groups.

He said that action was taken against these nabbed criminals and terrorists and activities of those ever remained jail bird are being monitored continuously. “CID police review the activities of suspects on fortnight basis and repor is presented to me for further necessary action,” he added.
