Uzbekistan celebrated the Day of the Defenders of the Motherland on 14 January.
As a result of the reforms in Uzbekistan’s army, a completely new system of management of the Armed Forces has been created, and a reliable defense complex of the country was formed.
In November 2008, Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a decree on improvement of the statutory military service in the Armed Forces.
In accordance with this document, the citizens of Uzbekistan are now called up to the military service one time per year (in February-March) instead of the previous two times. Newly introduced Sergeant schools and higher military colleges are provided with modern facilities that allow training the servicemen based on state-of-the-art scientific and technical achievements.
The military servicemen have been provided with a number of preferences aimed at improving their families’ living conditions. Serving in the Army has become prestigious profession.
As President Islam Karimov said in his congratulation to the defenders of the Motherland, the priority was to build the national army, which corresponds with the modern requirements and standards and is a reliable guarantor of the independence, security and territorial integrity of the country.
New monument “Vatanga Qasamyod” (“Oath to the Motherland”) was opened to mark the armed forces day holiday in Tashkent on 12 January.
The monument was raised on the initiative of the head of the state. “Today, we may be proud that over the short period of time in Uzbekistan a mobile, well armed and technically equipped army, which meets modern requirements, has a high capacity and can repulse any aggressor,” the President said in his speech at the monument opening ceremony.
“A powerful factor, which adds strength to the army and becomes decisive when necessary – is the moral and psychological preparation of the military servicemen, their unshakeable will and spirit, active attitude to life, and most importantly, deep understanding of for whom and for what they fulfill their military duty.
“In this regard, I would like to note that the effectiveness of the artistic images, which serve as spiritual examples for the youth, plays a decisive role and has a great importance in upbringing the young generation in the spirit of national idea, courage and firmness,” Islam Karimov said.
“Today we can rightly be proud of that for over the past short period the compact, mobile, well-armed and technically equipped army has been established in Uzbekistan.
Chosen strategy of modernization and democratic renewal of the country includes further reforming our army, its equipment with modern armament and techniques, increasing efficiency of combat and political preparation of troops, and as a whole consolidating operational and combat capability of our Armed Forces” he said.
It is important to expand and strengthen the operational and combat capabilities of the mobile formations and units of new types which were specially established in our army, namely the Special Operation Forces, Counterterrorism Corps, Search and Intelligence Platoons, as well as principally new types of subdivisions – the helicopter-striking platoons, to ensure their intensified training, as well as equipment with the latest armament and special tools”, – outlined the President Islam Karimov.
Taking oath is not merely an official event, but an unforgettable moment in the life of every man. This is why the sculptural complex on the proposal of President Islam Karimov was named “Vatanga Qasamyod” (“Oath to the Motherland”).
Raised in the center of a green park in Tashkent, the monument has become an embodiment of the devotion to the Motherland and courage of the self-sacrificing sons of our people.
For the first time in the history of Pak-Uzbek bilateral relations the Embassy of Uzbekistan is celebrating its Armed Forces Day in Pakistan which is the sign of ever-growing level of brotherly relations between the two countries.

There was some objection from some quarters for the shifting of the old Soviet Monument in Tashkent Uzbekistan. there is always a nostalgic feeling about any thing old and generally people love inertia. Nations must keep on adopting to the new demands of the time and challenges. Tashkent Uzbekistan is a city comparable with any best and thanks to the government and President Islam Karimov.
